Harry Dana Smith (called “Dana”) was born and raised in rural northern Maine, so far north that it was once considered by Canada as the Queen’s land. After graduation from high school, he attended the University Of Maine College Of Technology and obtained an Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1967. A few years after that, he returned to the University of Maine, earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and did continuing studies in Power and Power Plant Engineering. Dana is a Registered Professional Engineer in Maine and Virginia and his professional experience includes over 43 years of power plant design, construction and operations.
It was work that took him from Maine to Connecticut, back to Maine, to Florida, to Jamaica, to Missouri, to the Virgin Islands, and finally Roanoke where he retired from full time work in 2013. It was in Jamaica in 1995 when he met his beautiful wife, Winsome. Between them, Winsome and Dana have three sons and five grandchildren located in Connecticut, Colorado and Arizona.
Dana was raised in a Christian home, attended Sunday School and Youth Group through his teens, and has been a believer since he can remember. However, it was not until 1977 that Christ became a focal point of his faith, and not until September 2011 that he was Baptized at Enon and fully able to proclaim being born-again. Prior to being elected Treasurer, he served three years as an Enon Usher, three years as a member of the Enon Finance Committee, and in January 2014 he was ordained a Deacon of Enon Baptist Church. Dana is also a Notary Public in the Commonwealth and his services are available to Enon and its Members without fee.
